Description
An Italian red wine with wonderful freshness, fruity aromas, and soft tannins. This beautiful ruby-red wine, with notes of cherries and ripe red fruit and almonds, is smooth in the glass and pairs exceptionally well with light meat dishes and cheese, served at 18 degrees Celsius.
The bottle is sealed with a glass Vinolock. A luxurious and beautiful way to seal it instead of a cork or screw cap.
This Valpolicella is traditionally made from 70 percent corvina grapes supplemented with rondinella. These vines also have a high planting density per hectare: six to ten thousand grapes per hectare.
The result of rigorous selection is well-structured and concentrated fruit, which, after hand-harvesting, is gently transferred for maceration at twelve to fourteen degrees Celsius. This process quietly transitions into a ten-day fermentation, followed by pressing for enhanced color and complex tannins.
Alcohol: 12.5%
Origin : Italy, Veneto
Winery : Tenuta Sant'Antionio
Tenuta Sant'Antonio
Northeast of Verona, the four Castagnedi brothers have been processing various grapes from their 48-hectare estate into exquisite wines since 1989. Here, the chalky hills between the Illasi and Mezzane valleys, at altitudes ranging from 120 to 320 meters above sea level, provide the soil for red Corvinone, Corvina, Rondinella, and Cabernet Sauvignon vines; and white Garganega and Chardonnay.
Initially, the family sold the harvest to the local cooperative, but by investing in the latest techniques, the Castagnedis hoped to improve the quality of their wines and make the transition to bottled wines on their own estate profitable.
For example, the number of vines per hectare was increased while yields were reduced. And a new cellar was built against the Monti Garbi hill at a location where groundwater can be pumped.
In 1995, the first wines from Tenuta Sant'Antonio were released, and they immediately caught the attention of the wine press, importers, and consumers. This was a winery to be reckoned with!
The first major recognition came in 2000 when the Gambero Rosso awarded the Cabernet Sauvignon Capitello 1997 three glasses. Before that, the Chardonnay Colori d'Autunno 1996 had already scored 93 out of 100 points in Wine Spectator, and there was considerable interest in the Chardonnay IGT Scaia Bianca. The Castagnedi brothers' ability to produce international wines had become clear. However, convinced of their exceptional quality, they preferred to focus on producing local wines.
